Heir is a researcher at Nofima, Europe’s largest institute for applied research within the fields of food, fisheries and aquaculture. Relevant main research activities include control of bacteria in foods and food processing environments. Part of this research includes studies on occurrence, reservoirs and risk factors of AMR in the food chain including resistance to both disinfectants and antibiotics. Recent activities involve phenotypic and genomic characterization of bacteria commonly encountered in the food/food environment microbiome with regard to resistance properties and resistance gene transfer under relevant food processing conditions as well as bacterial genome and microbiota characterization. Even Heir has been project leader of several national research projects and a partner in a number of international research project and networks.
